Background: Chad is located in Central northern Africa. Most Chadians are Muslim. Chad has 21 regions. Chad was part of France's Arica holdings until 1960. Chad went through 3 decades of civil war and invasions from Libya. After the french left, the government had a democratic constitution and held presidential elections in 1996 and 2001. In 2005 rebel groups came form western Sudan and attacked eastern Chad. rebel campaigns continued in 2006 and 2007. Idriss Déby has been the president of Chad since 1990.
Current Affairs: One of the current affairs in Chad is the access to clean water. Also 80% of Chad's population relies on subsistence farming and livestock raising for its livelihood. Also Chad has had rebels periodically attacking the eastern side of Chad from Libya. There are approximately 400,000 refugees in Chad that come from other countries.
